Welcome
Maplewood United Methodist Church is a community where people can meet Jesus, experience the love of God, and trust that everyone is not only welcome, but celebrated for being exactly who they are. We believe in creating a space where people can have authentic encounters with Christ, discover their gifts and use them for God's glory.
What to Expect
Worship at Maplewood UMC begins at 11:00 on Sunday mornings, and all are welcome to worship together. Street parking is available, and you can enter the sanctuary from the West Entrance on Sutton Avenue or the South Entrance on Flora. While there is no elevator, a chair lift is available at the South Entrance.
People of all ages are celebrated at Maplewood, and included in the worship services. There is an open space in the back of the sanctuary with rocking chairs and couches, in case someone needs to spread out a little bit. And nursery care is available also, for the youngest ones among us.
That open space, which some people call the "narthex," also has a hospitality table with snacks and drinks, a name tag station, and sign-up lists for upcoming opportunities. Enjoy a cup of coffee and a tasty treat before the service begins!
The atmosphere is casual; feel free to wear whatever makes you comfortable. The worship service is traditional, with a blend of music - organ, praise band, choir, soloists - in a variety of styles. The service should last about an hour, provided the preacher doesn't get too long-winded!
The worship serivce is one of the primary spaces where people can have an authentic encounter with Christ, and that is the goal of worship at Maplewood. This encounter can happen through music, prayer, liturgy, and proclamation. Who knows how the Holy Spirit will move during worship?
