givehandsTomorrow during worship we will begin a new sermon series called “Seeing Jesus.” In Matthew’s gospel, the last story Jesus told his disciples before his arrest and crucifixion can be understood as a story about how to find him when he was no longer physically present in the world. He told them that they would find him whenever they fed the hungry, gave a drink to the thirsty, welcomed a stranger, gave clothes to the naked, took care of someone who was sick, or visited someone in prison, because when they did these things for “the least of these” they were doing it for him. (Matthew 25: 37 – 40) This story can also be understood as a story that helps us understand our purpose as Jesus’ followers to care for those who are vulnerable and in need.
