Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of Lent, the (approximately) six weeks that lead up to Easter.  During this season, the Maplewood UMC congregation focuses on growing in our relationship with God and with each other.

During Lent 2020, we will be explaining our newly developed Discipleship Pathway. Since learning often comes best by doing, different growth opportunities which are part of the Discipleship Pathway will be made available during Lent. You are encouraged to participate in five of the opportunities that are available during Lent.

Bible Basics
* Monday, March 9 at 7 pm; Wednesday, March 11, 10 am or Thursday, March 26 at 7 pm
This 90-minute small group will focus on the Bible, including how and why it came into being and why it is important to our faith. There will be a quick review of how to look up a passage in the Bible, and we will talk about ways to read and interpret the Bible. (Just so you know, there is more than one way. And we aren’t quite sure which way is absolutely “right.”)  If you have a Bible, you can bring your own. If you don’t, there will be plenty of Bibles available. You don’t have to know anything about the Bible before you come. By the end of the class, we hope that you know more about the Bible AND, most importantly, understand that the Bible is a book of faith that is meant for everyone—including you—to read and interpret.
This is a one and done learning opportunity.
Sign up for only one of the three dates.     Group Leader: Pastor Kim

This 90-minute small group session will provide a brief overview of the history of the church with a particular focus on John Wesley who gave birth to the movement that grew into the Methodist Church. By the end of the class we hope that you have learned a little more about the history of the Church, a little more about Methodism, and understand that the Church is not a building but a living being made of lots and lots of diverse people.
This is a one and done learning opportunity. Please sign up for only one of the three dates Group leader: Pastor Kim
