As the Thanksgiving holiday weekend wrapped up! I realized the other task I volunteered for was right there in my face. It was our MUMC Christmas adopt-a –family program. First a thank you goes to Shay Blackwell, Pastor Kim, and the others who helped get the contact information for the families that would be adopted by our church.
The next step was the huge help from Gary and Rachelle Douglas who made the decorated tags that went on our giving tree. Once the tags were on the tree, the congregation took over. People approached the giving tree and were taking multiple tags. It was a very inspiring site to see. Our tree was weighed down with 93 tags, 84 of which were ‘adopted’ by the congregation. The balance of 9 tags was fulfilled by the church.
A thank you to Shay who helped sort the gifts, all 93 of them. There were toys, transit and food gift cards. There were clothes, clocks, and books. All of these gifts were a sight to see. I think Shay was more interested in looking at the wrapping paper.
In total, our congregation helped four families ( 22 people in all) have a Christmas, which might not have been otherwise possible. Being a part of this event was truly special, seeing the generosity of our church and what could be done.
Blessings to all who helped with this program and/ or donated gifts to make this season’s program a huge success and an inspirational event.
